The National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA) celebrated a major milestone with its Inaugural Legal Symposium in the Philippines, highlighted by a landmark visit to the Supreme Court of the Philippines on Feb. 18. The event provided NFALA delegates with a unique opportunity to engage with the highest levels of the Philippine judiciary.
During the visit, the delegates met with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo and other esteemed members of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Gesmundo shared insights into the Court’s strategic plan for judicial innovations, which is set to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the judiciary from 2022 to 2027. These innovations aim to make justice more accessible and timely for the public.

The interaction between NFALA delegates and the Justices was an educational experience. Delegates had the chance to ask questions, and the responses they received offered a deeper understanding of the Philippine judicial system’s complexities. The dialogue was both informative and thought-provoking.
Following the meeting, the NFALA delegation was given a guided tour of the Supreme Court premises, including a visit to the Supreme Court Memorabilia. The tour featured historical artifacts and exhibits honoring retired Justices, offering a glimpse into the rich history and legacy of the Philippine judiciary.

Both NFALA and the Supreme Court expressed mutual appreciation for the exchange, underscoring the importance of fostering international legal collaboration and understanding.
This symposium, coupled with the court visit, marks a significant step in NFALA’s efforts to strengthen the connections between Filipino American legal professionals and enhance their understanding of Philippines judicial systems.
As NFALA continues to promote legal excellence and cultural exchange, the inaugural symposium in the Philippines serves as a testament to their ongoing commitment to bridging legal communities globally.
