MANILA, Philippines—Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III has urged Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero to quickly initiate proceedings in the Senate impeachment court, following the House of Representatives’ endorsement of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Pimentel stressed the Senate’s constitutional duty to address the matter without delay.

In a two-page letter sent in February, Pimentel outlined the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that the Senate must act promptly to organize the trial.

The letter underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions, reinforcing the Senate’s role in maintaining checks and balances within the government.

As Senate President, Escudero is tasked with managing the proceedings in line with constitutional guidelines, ensuring that the trial follows the proper legal process.
