MANILA, Philippines– The Gilas Pilipinas basketball team is set to travel to Doha, Qatar, next week as part of their preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia this August.

In Doha, the team will play friendly matches against national teams from Qatar, Lebanon, and Egypt.

These games will allow the coaching staff to evaluate the team’s performance and refine their strategies against diverse playing styles ahead of the Asia Cup.

The friendly matches serve a dual purpose: testing the team’s skills and providing experience in playing in an unfamiliar environment.

The absence of home crowd support presents a challenge that the team aims to address in order to prepare for the international competition.

Head coach Chot Reyes and his staff are focused on using these friendly matches to assess individual performances and team cohesion. These games will also help refine tactical approaches and ensure the players are ready for the FIBA Asia Cup.

The Qatar training camp is a part of the team’s broader strategy to build mental toughness and in-game adaptability.

The exposure to international teams is intended to help the players make quick decisions and strengthen their overall competitive edge.

Team management is confident that the experience gained in these friendlies will aid in the team’s preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup and other upcoming competitions.
