SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A police operation turned violent, resulting in seven officers being wounded. The largest police union in Texas is calling for accountability following the incident, which happened after officers responded to a call about a “suicide in progress.” The situation escalated quickly at an apartment complex located on Stone Oak Parkway.

The officers arrived at the scene after receiving an initial call around 8:30 p.m. local time, followed by a second call reporting gunfire. On arrival, officers encountered a woman exiting the apartment, warning that the suspect was shooting inside. San Antonio Police Chief William P. McManus identified the suspect as Brandon Scott Poulos, aged 46.

As officers approached, Poulos emerged from the apartment and opened fire. One officer was immediately struck in the leg. Poulos then retreated into the apartment and continued to shoot, injuring six more officers. The exchange prompted a prolonged standoff as officers attempted to negotiate and bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion. Nearby residents had to be evacuated from the area for their safety.

The injuries sustained by the officers were reported as non-life-threatening. All seven officers, who have served between four to eight years on the force, are expected to make a full recovery. The officers’ identities have not been publicly released.

After hours of attempted negotiation and tactical operations, law enforcement eventually entered the apartment. Poulos was found deceased, though authorities have not confirmed if his death was the result of a self-inflicted wound or police action. Chief McManus highlighted that it remains unclear whether SWAT officers engaged the suspect or whether another circumstance led to his death.

The incident has sparked a response from the Texas police union, which is demanding accountability and transparency from the involved parties. Union leaders stress the importance of ensuring the safety of officers while also addressing any procedural missteps that may have occurred during the operation.

San Antonio has added resources and support systems to address the needs of affected families and officers. Officials are reviewing the procedures followed during the incident as part of an internal investigation.

The attack marks a significant event for the San Antonio Police Department, which has faced other recent reports of officer-involved shootings. The department has increased its focus on officer safety and community engagement in response to this and other incidents.

The community responded with mixed emotions, with some residents expressing concern over the violent nature of the confrontation in a residential area. Others praised the officers’ bravery in handling the dangerous situation and ensuring the safety of civilians.

The San Antonio Police Department is cooperating with state and federal agencies in the investigation. City officials emphasize their commitment to fully understanding the events that led to the standoff and ensuring such incidents are minimized in the future.
