HOUSTON, Texas–The Texas Senate is deliberating a proposal to provide families with $10,000 annually to fund their children’s private education. This initiative is designed to allow up to 100,000 K-12 students to enroll in private schools across the state.

Senator Brandon Creighton, a Republican from Conroe, introduced the proposal.

The bill, also known as Senate Bill 2, offers $10,000 to families for each child enrolled in an accredited private school.

The legislation includes additional provisions, granting up to $11,500 for students with disabilities attending private institutions.

Creighton, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, emphasizes that the proposal aims to enhance educational opportunities across Texas.

The voucher system is a component of the larger school choice movement, which advocates for increased options in education.

Proponents argue that school choice empowers families and encourages educational innovation.

The Texas Senate’s consideration of the $10,000 voucher proposal marks a significant development in the state’s education policy landscape.
