MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra suffered a 91-86 defeat to the TNT Tropang Giga in their latest game of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup, held at the Philsports Arena.

The loss raised questions among fans and analysts about what went wrong for the Gin Kings.

RJ Abarrientos, Ginebra’s rookie guard, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance, pinpointing a lack of urgency as a key factor in the loss. Despite being new to the league, Abarrientos recognized that the team’s intensity did not match the level required to overcome a strong opponent like TNT.

The match was highly anticipated due to the teams’ rivalry, with Ginebra seeking revenge for a loss to TNT in the Governor’s Cup Finals. Fans expected an intense and high-stakes game, but Ginebra struggled to keep up with TNT’s pace and tactical execution, which ultimately led to their defeat.

TNT dominated throughout the game, especially in critical moments, displaying superior preparation and focus. Their defense stifled Ginebra’s offensive efforts, preventing the Gin Kings from finding a rhythm. As a result, Ginebra missed several opportunities, allowing TNT to maintain control and extend the point gap.

Veteran player John Mariano expressed disappointment but noted that the loss presented a valuable learning experience. He emphasized that Ginebra must improve in areas like teamwork and strategic planning to stay competitive in the league. Mariano also acknowledged the tough nature of the PBA and the necessity for teams to constantly adapt and grow.

Despite the setback, Ginebra’s loyal fanbase remains hopeful. Many view the defeat as a motivation for the team to regroup and refine their approach in future games.
