Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a second lawsuit against the social media platform TikTok for exposing minors to explicit content, a concern that has prompted him to act under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The lawsuit alleges that TikTok has misrepresented itself as suitable for children, violating regulations aimed at protecting young users from inappropriate material.

Paxton’s legal team argues that TikTok’s classification as a child-friendly platform is misleading.

They assert that the actual content frequently available on the platform contradicts this classification, potentially endangering minors who access TikTok.

Lawyers representing the Attorney General’s office have underscored the importance of adherence to consumer protection laws.

They believe that TikTok’s practices may constitute a breach of these laws. The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act is designed to safeguard consumers from deceptive business practices, and Paxton argues that TikTok’s conduct falls within this scope.

The Attorney General’s office has sought remedies that would compel TikTok to reevaluate its content policies.
