HOUSTON, Texas — A rat infestation in the Houston Police Department’s evidence room has raised concerns regarding the integrity of stored evidence.

According to department officials, the facility contains approximately 400,000 pounds of marijuana, which has attracted a large population of rats.

These rodents, reportedly consuming the marijuana, have been described as “drug-addicted” due to their apparent preference for the stored drugs.

The infestation presents a significant challenge for the police department, as the preservation of evidence is critical for ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.

The presence of rats could compromise the condition of the stored marijuana, potentially affecting the outcomes of related cases.

Officials are working to address the issue by implementing pest control measures and exploring options to relocate the marijuana to a more secure facility.

The department is consulting with experts to find effective solutions while minimizing disruption to legal processes.
