AUSTIN, Texas — A woman who died in a collision on New Year’s Day in Del Valle, Texas, has been identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The victim is 20-year-old Wendi Suzet Gonzalez-Leon. The identification was made possible with assistance from the public, who provided valuable tips to the authorities.
The incident occurred on the evening of January 1st, 2023. A 2005 Honda Pilot was traveling eastbound on McAngus Road, between State Highway 130 and Farm to Market Road 973.
As the vehicle crested a small hill, it struck the pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation.
The driver reported being unable to avoid the collision as the woman was suddenly in the vehicle’s path. Following the incident, emergency services airlifted Gonzalez-Leon to Dell Seton Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The authorities have notified her next of kin.
Texas DPS released photos of Gonzalez-Leon shortly after the crash, seeking public assistance in identifying her.
