A Fort Worth resident rescued eight abandoned puppies found inside a trash can at Crestwood Park on New Year’s Day.
The puppies, reportedly cold and hungry, were left without food or shelter when Matt McEntire discovered them.
McEntire quickly retrieved the puppies from the trash can and took them to a nearby animal shelter, where they received immediate care from the Humane Society of North Texas.
Shelter staff confirmed that the puppies, a few weeks old, were in good condition and would remain at the shelter until they were ready for adoption.
Local authorities have launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for abandoning the puppies. Abandoning animals is illegal, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
The Humane Society plans to put the puppies up for adoption, and many community members have expressed interest in adopting them. The shelter outlined its adoption process and encouraged potential adopters to visit the shelter in person.
The incident has raised awareness about responsible pet ownership and the importance of supporting local animal shelters. McEntire’s quick thinking has been praised, and the community has rallied around the puppies, with many hoping for their future success in finding loving homes.
