‘Oras Pinas’ aims to instill a culture of punctuality

MANILA, Philippines –The Oras Pinas campaign has officially launched this New Year as part of the National Time Consciousness Week in the Philippines.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) spearheads this campaign that aims to promote punctuality and effective time management as essential pillars for both personal and national development.

This year’s theme, “G na G! Oras Pinas para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” emphasizes the importance of proper time management in achieving a progressive nation.

Running from January 1 to 7, the campaign encourages the synchronization of timepieces across the country and promotes punctuality as a cultural norm.

The goal is to foster a society where time is respected, valued, and used efficiently, ultimately leading to enhanced productivity and growth.

A central aspect of the campaign is aligning with the Philippine Standard Time (PST), a unified time system that aims to eliminate the commonly accepted “Filipino time” of tardiness.

Instead, the Oras Pinas campaign encourages a mindset shift, where punctuality is viewed as a mark of respect and professionalism.

DOST Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized that time consciousness plays a crucial role in achieving economic growth.

The campaign is actively supported by educational institutions, government offices, and private organizations.

A variety of activities, such as workshops, seminars, and social media campaigns, are being organized to engage the public in discussions about time management. Special attention is given to involving the youth, encouraging them to adopt time-conscious habits early on.
